Exhausted but excited, we arrived at our hotel at 1:45 am local time on Friday morning December 11. (We had left Starkville Mississippi at 11:50 on Wednesday Dec 9th).
Our flights were uneventful but long. We flew on Delta from Mississippi to Atlanta then on Air France from Atlanta to Paris to New Delhi.
The Paris airport was in disarray; we were stuck in Terminal C for couple of hours before we boarded the final leg of the trip -- this terminal didn't even have a water fountain and the boarding process was a complete chaos
Our hotel is : the ITC Maurya in New Delhi which is near the American Embassy and close to the international airport --the hotel is a bit pricey, but the amenities are good-- including an Astrologer !! ; baby friendly bath tubs, and high chairs are available, the pool has a kiddie pool section, and the travel desk is very helpful. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful with very good coffee ----to all of our readers, I hope we do not bore you with the fine details, but some of our readers are parents waiting for their daughter's passports and we hope to help them with their travel plans.
We are off to the Flying Carpet--we have our haggling dukes on---we are told to always haggle 20% of the asking price. Tonight we meet with Usha and Raj Seth---good friends of Cordie and Charlie. PS --I hope Cordie's crash course in carpet buying will help us out.
Next -- we fly to Bhubaneswar, Orissa tomorrow afternoon.

ReplyDeleteThank God your flight to Delhi was uneventful. Today here in Wasington DC, NPR had a program about New Delhi and the area of Gurgaon (which has Microsoft, Nokia, Coke, Accenture offices). This area is almost like the West, however they were talking about the polution out there. And with the Global Warming summit in Copenhagen India is on the minds of most of world. You may get first hand knowledge about whats going out there in New Delhi.

How is the Christmas spirit out there, do the shops have Christmas items for sale. In Bandra, Bombay you will find Christmas items, but I don't know about Delhi.

The NPR report is correct : Delhi has a boom of construction in progress and there's a haze in the morning -- and we can feel the dust from the air on our skin
